Sea Kayaking Courses

 

British Canoe Union (B.C.U) 2 Star

Developing fundentental sea kayaking skills.

The new BCU 2 star develops both sea kayaking and canoe skills on flat water.  The BCU 2 star course enables paddlers to progress and develop their skills and is the requirement for the new BCU level 1 and 2 certificates in coaching.

The course is run over 2 days and costs £145 per person.

Craft

The award is obtained by taking an assessment in sea kayaks and canoes.

Pre-requisites

Candidates must be able to swim 25 metres wearing a buoyancy aid. You need to have completed a minimum of two two-hour journeys.

Personal Paddling Skills

  • Lift, carry and launch.
  • Efficient forward paddling.
  • Manoeuvre in confined spaces.
  • Moving sideways.
  • Steering and controlling.
  • Supporting strokes to avoid capsizing your kayak.

Rescue Skills

  • Capsize, swim and self rescue.
  • Peer rescue.

Safety, Leadership and Group Skills.

  • Personal risk management.
  • Awareness of others.
  • 3km – 5kms journey.

Destination Cornwall

The course can be run from the port of Falmouth in Cornwall. Falmouth is the third deepest harbour in the world and has many areas of outstanding natural beauty including Maenporth Beach which is used on calm days with a journey up to the  Helford River. No matter the weather we can always find a suitable location.
